Access Now and the #KeepItOn coalition are urging the government of Senegal to keep the internet accessible during the upcoming elections.

Nations across Africa, and the world, are intentionally shutting down the internet when people need it the most — during elections and important national events. This election, we urge the Republic of the Congo to #KeepItOn.

Amidst a growing crackdown on media, human rights defenders, and opposition politicians, the Republic of Uganda will hold general elections on Thursday, January 14. Access Now is calling on authorities to #KeepItOn.

The Republic of Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has pledged to keep the internet and digital communications tools accessible and open throughout the election period — and civil society is holding it to account.

Access Now, Article 19, Fortify Rights, and seven others are calling on authorities in Myanmar to immediately end criminal proceedings against, and release from detention, all those charged in relation to recent protests shining a spotlight on human rights violations and internet shutdowns in Rakhine and Chin states.

The government of Myanmar has a long history of implementing targeted internet shutdowns, slowdowns, and throttling. With the country’s federal election scheduled for November 8, Access Now calls for stable and open internet and digital communication channels across all states.

For democracy to flourish, access to free and open internet is vital, especially throughout elections — and several are scheduled over the next few months.
