Are the crypto wars back?

Top government officials have called on policy and technology experts to “start a conversation” about cryptography. These calls ignore more than two decades of discussions about encryption standards and what must be done to keep our communications systems secure.

Government experts and security researchers continue to talk past one another, engaging in only perfunctory public discussions, too short and too formulaic to move beyond talking points and dig into the hard questions.

What to expect at the Crypto Summit: Sessions at this full-day event will engage crypto war veterans, academics, corporate and government representatives, technologists, experts, and users in an interactive format. Sessions will be designed to brief attendees on the history of encryption policy, the technology behind encryption, the legal landscape, and potential outcomes from the debate currently taking place. Special, short sessions will be designed to open up the conversation and look at various ways that encryption is deployed and used.

We look forward to seeing you on July 15, 2015.
