Telcos urged to help stop Cameroon shutdown

For more than a month, telcos in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions have shut down the internet and given little explanation for the blocking.

Today, civil society organizations across the country, continent, and world have told the companies that the shutdown violates human rights, and asked for their help restoring access.

More than 25 organizations sent an Open Letter to Cameroon telco CEOs demanding more transparency about why and how they shut down the internet, and requesting joint pushback against any government orders they are executing. This follows a letter civil society sent to the Cameroon government last month demanding officials restore access.

The coalition action alert is here.
