Now that tech billionaire Elon Musk has completed his takeover of Twitter, he must protect the voices of human rights defenders across the globe. 

Authorities in Azerbaijan and Armenia must ensure full access to the internet — including social media platform, TikTok — for all, particularly in times of crises.

TikTok has paused its plan to impose personalised ads on people in EEA, UK, and Switzerland, after Access Now told the company that it must scrap this action.

The court must declare authorities’ overbroad Twitter takedown orders as unconstitutional, and bring to light abuse of power online. 

TikTok must halt its plan to force personalised ads on all users over 18, and the European Data Protection Board to should intervene.

Shareholders and financial institutions must withhold their approval for Twitter’s sale to Elon Musk unless human rights safeguards are in place.
