We, the undersigned organizations, write to reiterate our call on the government of India to lift the restriction on 4G high-speed internet access in the Jammu and Kashmir region.

The ID4D Principles must, from their very conceptualisation, seek to protect the human rights of the individual.

Internet shutdowns do not keep people safe. They worsen unsafe  situations in a country and are a violation of the fundamental rights of people. 

A rights-respecting regime would empower the citizens to assert their rights, along with creating contours of agreeable actions by data fiduciaries. We hope this bill will be amended to unlock that potential.

At a meeting of the United Nations OEWG on global cybersecurity, we advocated for approaches to put users at the center of cybersecurity policy and safeguard human rights.

The #KeepItOn coalition has received reports of internet shutdowns in numerous neighborhoods in Delhi, India, amid protests against the country’s new citizenship law.

At the United Nations OEWG meetings, we highlighted the increase in cyber attacks for surveillance and the global epidemic of internet shutdowns, both of which threaten the ability to use the internet securely.

The government must clarify whether it has transactions with NSO Group, and if not, establish an independent inquiry into over-broad, illegal surveillance of journalists and other members of civil society in India.

We hope to see India’s Parliament increase the substance and quantity of initiatives for protecting Indians’ digital rights.

A new study and guide aims to assist Thailand in strengthening and streamlining the National Cybersecurity Act in line with international human rights standards, promoting a human-centered approach to protect people and prevent misuse of the law for the surveillance of citizens.
