Tunisian-Maghrebi digital communications specialist Emna Mizouni has joined Access Now’s board of directors, bringing extensive experience as an online activist. She is a leading voice in Tunisia and across the region on issues ranging from open knowledge and culture to access to information and press freedom.
“Emna offers a deep understanding of how local communities are impacted by and responding to developments at the intersection of human rights and technology,” said Brett Solomon, Executive Director at Access Now. “Her insights will be invaluable to our work supporting users at risk in Africa and the MENA region, and we are proud to welcome her as the newest member of our board.”
In the lead up to RightsCon Tunis — the most recent iteration of the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age —she contributed to Access Now’s work to ensure the event served as a platform for civil society, activists, and human rights defenders across the Middle East and Africa to connect with each other as well as the global community and to move their work forward despite the many challenges they face.

Emna is the President-Founder of Carthagina, an organization promoting Tunisian heritage and culture globally through online documentation projects. She is also the Vice-Curator of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers youth initiative in the Tunis Hub; a leader in the Wikimedia Movement’s Tunisian, Arab, and African communities; and the representative in Tunisia for the women’s rights network organized by Karama.
