Session description:
This civil society-led counter-event to the AI for Good Global Summit takes a critical look at the overhyped role of AI in solving humanity’s long-standing problems, and at the UN’s ongoing partnerships with tech companies increasingly implicated in human rights abuses, violence, and armed conflict.
Building on the recent joint civil society statement on AI in warfare, launched by Access Now and Amnesty International — backed by over 350 signatories — and Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect’s joint webinar on Emerging Approaches to the Protection of Civilians in the Age of AI, Not AI for Good calls for an urgent rethinking of the tech-solutionist vision currently driving the humanitarian sector. It also examines the growing role of tech companies as defense contractors, and their part in exacerbating the very crises the humanitarian sector seeks to address.
Join us for an off-the-cuff and frank discussion about what goes unsaid at the AI for Good Summit, and to explore pathways toward a more just and fair humanitarian tech ecosystem.
