Biden Era Policy Tracker

How we’re tracking U.S. tech policy in 2021

After one year, Access Now is sunsetting the Biden Era Digital Rights Tracker project. To learn more on how the Biden administration fared on tech policy, read our summary here.

As the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration and new U.S. Congress get to work, human rights in the digital era need to be at the top of their agenda. 2021 presents a unique opportunity to methodically advance policy changes that can improve the lives of millions in the U.S. and around the world — and we’re here to help make it happen.

Over the past four years, we have seen the harms that result when leaders fail to put human rights and racial justice at the heart of tech policy. We have a lot of work to do.

The Biden-Harris administration has campaigned on promises to put people first. To help keep them accountable, and to empower all of us to take action, Access Now created this Digital Rights Tracker covering some of the major themes we’re following in 2021. Use the buttons below to navigate the tracker across 7 core issues:

Support putting digital rights on Biden’s agenda

Prioritizing digital rights means reinstating protections that have been stripped away — like the federal rules upholding net neutrality — and rolling back government policies that cause harm — like the use of facial-recognition surveillance. It means going further than ever before to connect people, hold tech companies accountable, protect our data, and nurture a safe and flourishing digital information space.

We’ll continuously update this tracker with developments as they unfold, and with new opportunities for you to help us fight for change.
