Access Now welcomes Javier Pallero as new Policy Director

Access Now is excited to announce Javier Pallero’s new appointment of Policy Director, where he will spearhead our expansive international policy work and lead a talented team of changemakers. Javier takes this new position after five and a half years as our Latin America Policy Lead, where he carved out Access Now’s regional vision and content governance work, including the organization’s participation in international fora and policy positioning.

“I am proud to be leading a diverse and passionate team of activists and experts at Access Now,” said Javier Pallero, Policy Director at Access Now. “Through first-hand experience at Access Now, in my roles at both the regional and global levels, I know what is needed to provide the support, collaboration, and guidance for an international team — and I am ready for the challenge.”

Javier brings to this position years of activism and collaboration with civil society in Argentina, Latin America, and beyond. His expert opinions on digital rights issues have been featured in national and international media — including Forbes and the Washington Post — and through the policy papers, outreach pieces, and digital rights podcasts he has shepherded.

Javier’s background, passion, and lived experience as a member of the Latin American activist community add both regional expertise and dynamism to Access Now’s scope of leadership, positioning us at a unique vantage point to defend and extend the digital rights of users at risk on a truly global level. We are excited to see what this new structure brings to our skilled and exceptional team, the scope of our work, and our global impact.

“Today’s unprecedented landscape presents new and emerging roadblocks to defending and extending the rights of users at risk. A public health crisis, adding to preexistent social, economic, and political issues around the world, elicit answers from governments and companies that are sometimes at odds with human rights. Access Now’s global and diverse policy team is in a unique position to analyze emerging challenges in technology, and provide clear guidance to decision makers in order to achieve a rights-respecting digital environment,” said Javier.
